South-East Romania, Dobrogea is an wonderful land if you know when to visit it. Winter is one of the special seasons in Dobrogea, here you can see a lot of geese, including the famous Red-breasted, White-fronted and Lesser White-fronted Goose, Whooper and Tundra Swans, many raptors and passerines. Winter is an exceptional season for birders and photographers in Dobrogea.
Dobrogea is undoubtedly the best place where to see Red-breasted Geese due to the large number of birds wintering here. In November – March, almost the entire world population (+94%) of Red-breasted Geese is here.
It’s an winter tour, a combination of photography and birdwatching tour. The guide will bring a scope for the entire group use, we can also borrow you binoculars if you do not have. You just bring your photo camera. If you can’t get close enough to the birds for (photo) shooting, you just enjoy their presence and watch them through binoculars or scope.

An example of the program of 4 days / 3 nights looks like
Day 1 – You’ll meet the guide in Tulcea, in the afternoon and do check in to the hotel. The guide will inform you about next day program.
In order to build a target list, please download the Birds list of Dobrogea and the Danube Delta so you can find the species found here, month by month. The guide will set the route(s) according to your target list.
Days 2 and 3 – At 6:00 you’ll depart on field to see birds, the route will be set based on fresh information from the field, you’ll travel by our 4×4 car (up to 3 pers) or minibus (4-6 pers). The guide knows very well the Geese places for grazing, roosting and sleeping.
For longer tours (more days), all days will be the same program, different will be only the route. Of course, the guide will spot also other species of birds. For longer tours you may change the overnight places, closer to the next routes.
Day 4 – After breakfast the tour is ending.
Food
For lunch you can order food to go from the hotel or you can buy some food from the supermarket near the hotel. For dinner, you’ll be at the hotel and you can choose between the hotel restaurant or another restaurant in Tulcea.
Personal Equipment
Being an winter tour that involves travel by land, you need a very good personal equipment. It should contain:
- Waterproof clothing – in Dobrogea even if it’s not rains, winter is likely to be fog and/or wind. Only good quality clothes will keep you warm and dry.
- Waterproof footwear for mud boots and/or rubber boots You will walk through mud or snow, even if not on long distance, though you should be well prepared for this.
- The color of clothes is also very important. Please bring clothes in colors more natural, as close to the colors of nature surrounding. The brown camouflage pattern are the best. If you come in red clothes, yellow or other colors from the city you will certainly don’t get too close to wildlife.
As birdwatching / photo equipment, you should bring:
- Binoculars
- Camera and spare batteries
- Books or phone app of birds in your language (if it’s other then English)
Day tours
Runs from 6 am to afternoon. The guide will drive on roads or not, the decision to cross a field belongs exclusively to the guide/driver and will be taken depending on weather and road conditions (mud, ice, snow etc.).
If the weather gets worse (heavy snow or fog), guide and / or driver can interrupt the tour. Customer safety is first, we always want to make sure that you can get back to town without problems.
*Extreme conditions:
In case of extreme weather conditions (snow, roads closed) occurred before the start of the tour, the deposit will be returned in full.
If these extreme conditions occur during the tour, the price will be lowered only for the remaining part of the program not made.
If customers come from another country / region and appear extreme weather conditions, our agency has no obligation to compensate customers in any way for expenses related to flights or other transportation. Also, if extreme weather conditions occurring during the program and the clients can’t go back home, our agency has no obligation to pay accommodation and other additional expenses.
Bookings
Request a booking implies acceptance of the terms and conditions.
Bookings are based on a 30% deposit of the price of the program. The payment options are: cash, online card payment, bank transfer or Revolut.
The rest of the payment have to be done 30 days before the tour start. If the tour is booked less then 30 days before departure, the full price will be paid.

Cancellation Policy:
More then 90 days before the program you can postpone the trip (you will receive a voucher available 2 years). Less then 90 days before the trip, the deposit is non refundable.
