This program can be a short wildlife brake to Romania OR you can link it to another tour from our website. Please check our tours for Dobrudja, autumn – winter season.

Ural Owl, Crossbill, Nutcracker (and many others) – All year around
Wallcreeper – December to March (for this program).
Bears – October to December and March; January to February – subject to snow and temperature.

The tour:
Takes 5 days – 4 nights. You’ll be accommodated in 3* local guesthouses, for 2 nights in Brasov area and 2 nights in Sibiu area. We have 2 days dedicated to transfers (first and last) and 3 full days dedicated to birding and wildlife watching day trips.
Being a private tour, we’ll design the routes according to your target species. Please check the list of Birds in Transylvania Sibiu and Brasov Area and give us a clue of your target species.

The price includes:
- Wildlife Guide (English Language)
- Transfers from and to Bucharest / Brasov / Sibiu (Airport or hotel)

Itinerary:
Day 1: We’ll pick-you up from Bucharest, Brasov or Sibiu and transfer you to the accommodation in Brasov area. In the evening, the guide will discuss about the next days program, over diner.
Day 2: After breakfast, the guide will take you to a light trekking around the area, for spotting birds. Lunch in a restaurant then you’ll take a visit to a Bears hide. Expected species will be: wild Brown Bears, Red Foxes and Wild Boars. Bears session is ending after sunset. Dinner and accommodation in Brasov area.
*If it’s hard winter and Bears are hibernating, you’ll take a tour, by car, to spot other birds or mammals species.
Also, in winter, you’ll skip the lunch. Daylight is from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM and we prefer to use all the daylight for spotting birds. You’ll have an early breakfast, some snacks on the car, a consistent meal after sunset (around 5:00 – 6:00 PM).
Day 3: Early in the morning, after the breakfast, you will start exploring the surroundings for another birding session. In the afternoon the guide leads you to Sibiu area, famous for its Saxon fortified churches. Dinner and accommodation in Sibiu area.
Depending by your target species, the guide will design the route for this day.
Day 4: After breakfast, the car will transport you up to the mountains. You will go by car as far as possible (depending by the snow level) then you will trek until you reach all the targeted birds species. It’s not a difficult trail but a moderate fit level is required. Dinner and accommodation in Sibiu area.
Day 5: After breakfast, you will be transferred to Bucharest / Brasov or Sibiu, where our tour end. If you book your flight today, please consider to take it later then 14:00 (12:00 drop off to Bucharest Airport). If it’s on an weekend, it’s better to be later then 16:00.
Personal equipment required
Being an winter tour that involves travel by land, you need a very good personal equipment. It should contain:
- Waterproof clothing – winter is likely to be fog and / or wind.
- Waterproof footwear for mud /snow boots. You will travel through mud or snow, even if not on long distance, though you should be prepared for this.
- The color of clothes is also very important. Please bring clothes in colors more natural, as close to the colors of nature surrounding. The brown camouflage pattern are the best. Red, yellow or other colors to be avoided.
As birdwatching equipment, you should have with you
- Binoculars
- Camera and spare batteries (cold weather is much faster download)
- Books of birds in your language (if it’s other then English)
