Birdwatching Tour to Dobrudja and the Danube Delta 7d/6n - 2020 SHARED

It’s a tour for birders willing to see as many birds species as possible, in the most famous birding areas in Romania: Dobrudja and the Danube Delta, in 5 full daily birding trips.

It is on of our most requested program, due to the well designed routes every day and the high comfort of the tour. You’ll have only 2 accommodations (one on mainland, one into the Danube Delta) so will not be necessary to carry all your baggage every day.

The tour description:

The tour it’s starting in Bucharest Henri Coanda Airport (OTP). Meeting time is 15:00 so please be sure you can arrive before this time. If you are already in Bucharest, you can be picked up from the entrance on the A2 highway (we’ll send you a GPS point).

The tour is ending also in Bucharest Airport, also at 15:00 so please book you departure flights later then 17:00 on Day 7.

The day tours takes all day. You’ll depart in the morning (early) and end in the evening. The guide will show you a good part of the best places for birding, along with spectacular landscapes of this area.

We do this tour with up to 6 persons (6 clients + guide).

Expected birds:

Depending by the season, in Dobrudja and the Danube Delta, you can see different species of birds. Please download the list from here: Birds list of Dobruja and the Danube Delta. To see what to expect when you want to come. Also, to send us a target list, it will be very helpful.

The tour cover almost all kind of habitats in Dobrudja and the Danube Delta, the list of birds expected here si +150 species and the guide will ll try to show you why this area is so famous, with large numbers of birds of common species along with rare and very rare species.

The price of this tour is:

1.300 euro/person

200 euro/pers/tour single supplement

Prices are in Euro, per person and include VAT.

The price/persons is calculated for a shared double room. For single room, a supplement is required.

The package includes:

• Guide, ENGLISH language
• Accommodation for 6 nights at three star local pensions
• 3 meals a day, as described in the program.
• Transfers on water from Tulcea to Mila 23 and back
• Transfers by car from Bucharest Airport to Dobrudja and back
• Two and a half days of boat trips on the Danube Delta, including guide, boat and gasoline
• Two and half days of car trips on Dobruja, including car, guide, fuel and driver
• Bottled water
• Danube Delta visitation fee, imposed by ARBDD

Not included:

• Drinks (except water)
• Any kind of insurance (travel, personal goods etc)
• Any other element not detailed in the program.

Itinerary

Day 1: At 15:00 meeting in Bucharest Airport (we’ll send you the place very detailed). At 15:30 you’ll depart from the Airport and head to Dobrudja. In Dobrudja, after you leave the highway, you’ll stop in some good places to see the first birds. Accommodation will be in Dobrudja, for the first 3 nights. They will wait for you with a good dinner.

Day 2: Early in the morning, you depart for the first day birding trip, this day you’ll have some sessions of walk into the forests or on the mountains (easy trails) so please ware comfortable trekking shoes.

you’ll have the breakfast packed and you’ll eat in a nice place, searching also for some birds. The lunch will be in a local restaurant, dinner to the accommodation.

Day 3: Today you’ll head to South, to the sea shore and you’ll stop from place to place (good places!) to scan the shores for all kind of birds. It will be a very LONG day.

Here are 2 of the best birding places in the area so the guide will push to see both, even if will be very tiring, for sure it will worth.

The same as Day 2 about the meals.

Day 4: This is a special day, you’ll have half on dry land, half on water. you’ll see a special area, with salty lakes and other nice places. At lunch time you’ll head to Tulcea, take lunch and go to the boat for the transfer to Mila23, the next part of your program. From now, you’ll be only on the boat for trips.

The transfer takes about 4 hours (it’s not a hurry), the transfer is done with very low speed, searching for birds. The route cross very nice areas, with many birds. In the evening you’ll be in Mila23, in the middle of the Danube Delta, here will be your accommodation for the next 3 nights. They’ll wait for you with a traditional fisherman meal.

Day 5: You’ll have 2 tours today. First starts one hour before sunrise and you’ll come back at noon to the pension for lunch and some rest time, then you’ll take another tour, in the evening. As you can imagine, today is the PELICANS AND WATER BIRDS DAY. 

Breakfast is again to go, lunch and dinner to the accommodation place.

Day 6: Today you’ll have a longer tour. The day trip start again very early, before sunrise and slowly drive to Letea, in the North of the Danube Delta, over the North Lakes where usually are a lot of Pelicans and Pallas’s Gulls. In Letea you’ll have the lunch and the guide will lead you to see good birds in a different habitat then before.

This is a BIRDS DAY, all kind of birds will be in your way because you’ll cross marshlands, sandy canals, shallow lakes, waterlilies beds, small canals, large canals. You’ll be back home late in the evening.

Day 7: After a relaxed breakfast (7:00 am), this time without sunrise session, you’ll backtrack your way to Tulcea (8:00 am), but now, in the morning, you’ll have the best light for this route. Around 10:30 you’ll be in Tulcea and have the transfer, by car, to Bucharest Airport. At 15:00 we drop you to the Airport and end our tour.

Accommodation:

You’ll be accommodated in 3* local guesthouses, in en-suite double rooms. We collaborate with the best local guesthouses and restaurants / households.

Meals:

All meals (3 meals/day: breakfast, lunch, dinner) are included. Every lunch and dinner is an authentic local experience.

The car:

Up to 3 persons, we’ll use a regular car, for 4-6 pers, we’ll use an 8 places minivan.

The boat:

We are using for this birdwatching tour has been built specifically for this activity. The boat is very stable, it has a lot of room, is equipped with benches with backrests and pillows.

All travelers will be sitting on the benches facing the direction of travel, with a very high freedom of movement and the field of view unobstructed.
